/azu/ - Azumanga

An accurate way to view /azu/

/azu/ was an imageboard dedicated to Azumanga Daioh, that being a manga and anime seriesA). However, the site also allowed content related to Yotsubato.
The board had been around for a long time, and it’s mentioned semi-frequently among chanverse enthusiasts.
Sometime in March of 2023 B) the board went offline. Sometime around August 2023, /azu/ returned.1)

Note: Yes, I know the images are fucked. No, I’m not fixing it right now. Yes, I will fix it eventually. No, the fix won’t be satisfactory. I also realize that everything is written in the past-tense, so I’ll fix that at some point as well.

Board impressions

/AZU/ in the flesh

/azu/‘s community appeared to be pretty nice, which gave the board an overall relaxing feel.
It was a very slow board, being slower than Channel4, which isn’t all that surprising considering its niche topic. In addition to this, the top thread was about the /azu/ discord server, which isn’t a very chan thing to do.

Idlechan connection

/azu/ wasn’t originally part of the iichan/Wakachan coalitions, but was part of the short revival ‘Idlechan’, which wasn’t actually a coalition.
Despite this, I was told that /azu/ was apparently hosted on Wakachan. I haven’t pursued the subject further, so I don’t really know what this means, nor have I confirmed it.

  • I found it while looking through this thread
  • I had missed /azu/‘s revival and wasn’t aware of it until March 2024, which I became somewhat embarrassed aboutC). Honestly, I had just assumed it died and wouldn’t return.
    • Previously, there was a note about how I wasn’t particularly sad about /azu/‘s death compared to Kazamatsuri. This is because I don’t know anything about Azumanga. However, that note is now pointless.

A) Azumanga Daioh was pretty popular on SomethingAwful and 4chan back in the day. It remains popular with so-called ‘oldfags’.
B) It was still online around the 13th of March, which was when I last checked; it is the 24th as of writing this, and the site is no longer accessible.
C) Being the only one among the personal wikis I’m aware of who had an article on /azu/, this was a pretty big blunder.
