This is a very early kind of update. I decided to share some kind of progress.
There are two goals with this article. The first is to outline to myself what I have to do, because I honestly doubt there’s anyone actually reading anything on this wiki. The second I forgot while writing this, but there is a second reason.
I’ve decided to abandon this project. Instead, I’ve decided to rely on trial and error. One thing I might work on is a pronunciation guide, but that’s for way later down the line.
I’ll be adding characters, locations, worldbuilding stuff and speculation.
I had the idea of making an Academy City map. Specifically an interactive one. Kinda like what the index wiki has but a bit different.
Images are something I’d like to add to the article. So I’ll be experimenting with stuff like my own drawings and the like.
The first stuff I’ll add might be traces of screencaps. Why? Because, for some reason, the quality of my screencaps is really bad a lot of the time. But I don’t know for sure.
This is a list and basic explanation.
I should have probably made a lot of these as independent reviews since I can’t remember what I wanted to add to many of them.
The first version of the article should just be a short explanation, list of tans and an adaptation of stuff on the collections wiki. Images are a wildcard right now.
I’ll fix up my /azu/ article along with the Channel4 article. I’ll include screenshots of the main pages, links to the boards, impressions of the cultures and that’s it I think.
As for Chanverse stuff in general, I’m not sure how to deal with it. I have a feeling I should probably give up on it entirely (with the exception of those two mentioned above) because I’m not all that familiar with the Chanverse. However…
I did say I was interested in making my own board, I decided to take this idea to a bit more of an extreme though. I’m wondering if I could successfully create boards around a lot of the topics I like (Toaru, OS-tan, Kazamatsuri, the rest). I’m leaning towards “no, I could not do it” and I doubt I’d even be able to run a lot of it.
That being said, this is likely something I will try. But how long until I do I’m not sure.
That will likely be my “full” entry into the Chanverse. I have no intention of being special in the Chanverse space, I don’t want any kind of gimmick, I don’t want to supplant any big boards or sites… I just want a place where I can discuss the things I’m interested in, which I’ve failed to find.
There are about 3 guides on this wiki. I will rewrite all of them, I think.
The big one is Guide to Japanese Media, which I’ll change since it’s just a list of content I like. It’s also a really poor article and I really don’t like it.
The second one, which is a lower priority, would be Guide to Danganronpa. How I’ll change it I’m not sure at all.
The third one is “Windows Ricing Guide” which can be confused for “Windows Ricing” and yet is closer to “Windows Themeing” - I’ll just merge all of them. What it’ll look like when finished I have no idea.
I will change all of these at some point. I thought I liked my Retroshare article, but then I actually looked at it. Hydrus has a poor article as well.
I don’t like any of my software articles so I’ll be rewriting them. I’ll start with Hydrus and then use it as a template for others.
I have no idea what the philosophy section has changed into, but I’ll be changing it.
One thing I will add soon is an article about “Clans”. It will just be an explanation of how I think clans work.
Although I’ll be focusing my effort on the Toaru Project and then Kazamatsuri stuff… I will eventually move onto the other media articles that have been neglected.
The ones that’ll be worked on first will probably be KamiNomi and Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryū no Rondo. After that I’ll move onto SAO and ΛLDNOΛH.ZERO. I might get to The Final Station.
I will start working on “Hi, I'm Dave”. When I will start and when I’ll be done I don’t know.
Besides that, I’ll restart work on “Angel Beats! - Wild Heaven - Birth of the Marines”. The way I wrote the prologue thing really irks me so I’ll change it.
Queen of the Caliphate is unlikely to be done anytime soon.
One thing I think I’ll start working on is SAO R\R and I’ll publish the first chapter… sometime.
I’ll change the logo and favicon. I’ll be redesigning the logo as well, because I don’t like the current version at all.
Some articles lack images. Actually, most articles lack images. I’ll be adding banners to all media articles. I’ll be adding character portraits once I bother to draw them. I’ll be adding… some kind of other images too.
It’ll be great… maybe.
I wrote an article called “Universal Magic System”… it got lost. So I’ll start writing it again.
Another article that will be worked on is “Universal Character Descriptor” which probably won’t actually exist.
I’ll be changing the starts of all the various sub-sections because I don’t like any of them. They’re typically long, have no colour (besides red heh) and have awkwardly written sentences.
Fan wikis for certain things are a hit or miss kind of deal. Several times I had the idea of making my own versions of them… I will not obviously.
Instead, I’ll probably try to emulate a lot of wikis but with my own twists.
Something that’s always puzzled me is how character articles will sometimes explain almost the entire story in a “History” or “Chronology” section and yet leave the rest of the article barren. Personalities? Relationships? Trivia? Appearances? Description? - nah, those are all secondary.
This kinda pisses me off a little, so that’s basically what I’ll be doing… I think.
I am ridiculously bad at describing people beyond extremely simple descriptions. While I let this hold me back on actually describing people, I’ve decided to fuckit. I’ll be adding personality descriptions and I won’t really care how accurate they are. If I can’t describe what they’re like, I’ll try to describe how they act. With time, I’ll get better at it.
I am terrible at getting to work. I’m also really bad at committing to something, choosing instead to bounce from one thing to another. No idea how to solve this, but I’ll do my best.
Hell, getting myself to write this article took a lot.
I originally started writing all the reviews on here because it was quick and easy. This meant I could fill up the wiki really quickly with a lot of content. As a result though, this is what the description of the wiki is on Rumia's wiki:
A personal wiki by “Ninjasr”. It’s mostly reviews.
Although a completely accurate description, I really don’t like it. So I’ll stop myself from writing reviews for a while. For Toaru, I’ll ignore writing them until I have either:
Once I’m satisfied enough with the rest of what I promised in this update, I’ll start writing reviews again. But I’ll first rewrite… most of them I think.
I used footnotes for… well footnotes. I’d add some extra information I thought people might be interested in. Then I realised people don’t actually read them. So there’s a bit of a change now, I’ll be using either (brackets) or I’ll work whatever I want to say into the article. You’ll notice the Toaru article has only 1 footnote and I’m considering getting rid of it.
I’ll be minimizing the amount I swear on this website.
Readers should not assume it’s because I want to be “child-friendly” or that I dislike swears. IRL, I don’t swear that much. Most of the time, I have to “force” it out. By default, I don’t really swear that much.
A lot of the swearing on here was honestly there because I tried mimicking 0037's wiki. I find it kinda unnatural and unnecessary now so I’ll put it to a stop.
One reason I’m focusing so much on this wiki now is that I’m starting off a few other projects. As part of that, I decided to turn this place into a sort of “core” that all the other projects stem from. Logically then, it makes sense to make the core as healthy as possible.
I won’t yet reveal what those side-projects are, since I don’t even know if I’ll get them up and running.
This update turned out to be much longer than I expected. It’s only been a day since the last one too, but I kinda had to write this.
So yeah, next update in a week. Yes, I’ll hold back.
Ninja… out!
